I had some power, but over inconsequential things: I could choose to launder diapers on a Wednesday or a Thursday. That I was wasting my time and effort in whitening diapers didn’t occur to me. After a couple of days of soaking them, I swished and swirled and rinsed the diapers in the washing machine. In the United States, 95% of the babies wear disposables, and on an average an American baby goes through 8,000 diapers. Would it stall my daughter’s mental or emotional development if I didn’t wrap her bottom in perfectly white diapers?
