When it comes to equal rights for women, Virginia just made a grand symbolic statement. On January 15, 2020, Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) after both its Senate and House of Delegates voted their approval of the ERA. Currently, the Constitution only guarantees equal rights to men. History of the ERAIt is a little known fact that the Constitution does not explicitly require equal rights for women. The idea of equal rights for men and women under the Constitution began back in 1921.
