Disney and Charter Communications are reportedly close to reaching a deal that would end their blackout dispute, allowing millions of Charter cable customers to once again access Disney TV channels, including ESPN. The progress comes just hours before the airing of “Monday Night Football” on Disney’s ESPN, which had been withheld from Charter customers during the dispute. The blackout between Charter and Disney has been ongoing since late August when carriage renewal negotiations between the two companies broke down. As a result, millions of Charter customers were left without access to Disney channels, leading some to seek alternatives such as Disney’s Hulu + Live TV or Google’s YouTube TV. The settlement between Disney and Charter signals a potential resolution for future negotiations in the industry.
