I live in a block of ten flats and each of the residents owns a share of the freehold. One of the owners who has become disabled has requested that a ramp be installed to allow him easier access. The cost of installation will be in excess of £30,000, which he claims would have to be shared among all the owners. AnonymousI assume that your building is owned by a company and that each of the ten residents in the building holds a share in that company, a structure known as Share of Freehold. Provided that the resident has a disability that falls within Section 6 of the Equality Act 2010, then section 36 of the Act will apply.
