However, whether lawmakers feel compelled to respond depends, at least in part, on what ordinary Americans think about climate change. So how many Americans believe that climate change is caused by human activities? Others find that less than a quarter of Republicans believe in anthropogenic climate change. And because many Americans do not consider climate change to be a high priority, some surveys explain what climate change is (“introductory text”) before asking respondents questions about it. For now, we encourage those who study or share climate change opinion to openly discuss their survey design choices.
