Doctor explains risk Premier League players could catch coronavirus as matches resume

The Premier League took a three month hiatus amid the global coronavirus pandemic, but will begin again at 18:00 BST tonight. While the matches will resume today, they’ll be played behind closed doors to reduce the risk of fans catching the virus. Speaking to Mirror Online, Dr Kathryn Basford, a GP at UK-based online doctor, Zava UK, said: “With the Premier League resuming tonight some people may understandably be wondering about the risk of players spreading COVID-19 between each other. The Premier League website explains: “In line with the Return to Training Protocol, players and staff are required to still undergo daily screening. Avoiding hand shaking, maintaining social distance when goal celebrating and not spitting are some ways to reduce the risk while playing."
