Chris Tredwell, 75, was stunned when the 3ft (1m) reptile “literally brushed past his nose” after it was dropped by a crow. The grandfather-of-five mistook the creature for a piece of rope - before it began to move. He said: “I don’t know who was most shocked - the snake or me. He initially thought it was a venomous adder but was relieved to discover it was a grass snake, which is harmless to humans. She added: “Grass snakes are pretty common but not in these circumstances.”The grass snake is one of just three species of snakes that are native to the UK and are not dangerous to humans.
