Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, who deputised for Boris Johnson while he was unwell with Covid-19, was grilled over the absence of experts at the daily press conference in recent weeks. The number of medics and scientists appearing at the daily televised briefing has halved since the start of June. Mr Raab said: "In terms of presence at these press conferences, scientists and the chief and deputy medical officers will continue to come and attend these press conferences. "Dominic Raab's claim that senior scientific and medical advisers are too busy to attend simply doesn't wash when they were attending daily press conferences during the peak of the outbreak. "The only logical conclusion is that the government is content to use scientists when it suits them but ducking scrutiny when it doesn't."
