SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RHODE ISLAND Walk down the Otter Point Trail at the Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, and you’ll emerge from a narrow path lined with trees to the edge of a coastal salt pond. Ask crime writer Don Winslow. “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come to a place like this and been like, yeah, there’s nothing,” Winslow said. “He’s had a lot of different jobs, and he’s seen a lot of life,” said fellow crime writer Lou Berney. He’s got his family, and his biannual cross-country road trips from California to Rhode Island and back.
