Maine on Dec. 28 became the second state to ban former president Donald Trump from its primary ballot due to his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. Gavin Newsom (D) had pushed back on the idea, saying Trump should be defeated at the ballot box. The high courts in Minnesota and Michigan recently allowed Trump’s name to appear on the primary ballot in those states.
