Periasamymore-inCoimbatore Corporation on Friday began assessing the quantity of waste dumped in the Vellalore yard to start the closure exercise. The civic body had been grappling with the waste accumulated over the years - the waste is mixed (wet degradable, dry recyclable and inert waste) and dumped because it is over the above the quantity of waste the waste processing contractor can handle. The current exercise was to confirm the quantity and suggest the method to be adopted to close the waste. In the city, to improve the waste collection exercise, the corporation would build exclusive organic waste collection centres and dry waste resources centres - one each a zone.
