A British-Australian academic serving a ten-year sentence for espionage has been beaten and drugged for forming a choir in her Iranian jail, sources claim. She was beaten in retaliation for sending messages to new inmates, and for starting a prison choir which sang and hummed as a form of protest, sources close to her family told The Times. Dr Moore-Gilbert formed the 'Evin Choir' after turning down Iranian attempts to recruit her as a spy and smuggling out letters begging Prime Minister Scott Morrison for help. In May, her family released a statement claiming she remains in 'good health', contradicting claims made she was struggling to adapt to life behind bars.
