Dublin and Cork airports may see significant staff downsizing with 750 to 1,000 jobs likely to be lost, the chief executive of Daa has said. However, he said Daa, which operates both Dublin and Cork airports, wanted to maintain relationships with its staff as he anticipated that in two to three years the aviation industry would recover. Prior to the pandemic Dublin and Cork airports would have been served by 50 airlines, that dropped to seven airlines and the airports were down to 800 passengers per day, he said. We had 4,000 passengers – we would normally have about 115,000 passengers going through Dublin airport alone so you’re talking about a 98 per cent reduction. Pre-coronavirus, Dublin airport would have processed 6,000 passengers through security, at present only 2,000 are being processed.
