Dustin Yellin Tackles Climate Change With Oil Tanker Tipped Vertically

How do you educate the public about the urgency of climate change? For artist Dustin Yellin, the answer involves tipping a 1,000-foot-long oil tanker, anchoring it vertically in a harbor and turning it into a tourist attraction to rival the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower. “I don’t think people can get a picture of what it’s like if whole countries can’t grow food or there’s no fresh water, and hundreds of millions of people are migrating,” Mr. Yellin said at The Wall Street Journal’s Future of Everything Festival on Monday. The aim of “The Bridge,” his project to help raise awareness about conservation, is to “bring the emergency and urgency around climate into the zeitgeist of our species quicker and let the species participate in policy on conservation.”
