President Rodrigo DuterteThe Department of Budget and Management has announced on Saturday that President Rodrigo Duterte approved the release of P2.5 billion from the government's contingency fund for the procurement of 4 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine. "The President just approved P2.5 billion, equivalent to $56 million, chargeable against the 2021 contingency fund. Avisado explained that the government has a P13-billion contingency fund this year that can be utilized for urgent national measures. Except for local government units and government-owned and -controlled companies, the contingency fund is directly disbursed to requesting agencies. Combined with the supply bought by the private sector, the Philippines is expected to get 178 million Covid-19 vaccine doses - enough to inoculate 92 million individuals or 100 percent of the country's adult population.
