File photo of ICU beds CollectedThis is nothing but gross inefficiency -- not to mention an utter lack of coordination and cooperationIt is a matter of grave concern that 89% of all ICU beds in public hospitals are currently occupied as of this week. With the second wave of coronavirus upon us and the winter season exacerbating the health of our citizens in general, the grim possibility that some patients may not be able to avail ICU facilities appears all too real. This cannot be taken lightly by the authorities concerned -- all citizens deserve to receive the best health care facilities possible, regardless of their position in society. Setting up ICU beds is a time-consuming task, yet, it is clear that our ICU facilities require to be upgraded. We have the resources, and it is high time we became efficient about how we used them.
