ESPN has hired six veteran reporters from the Washington Post, most of whom were cut loose after the Jeff Bezos news outlet eliminated the sports section as part of massive layoffs. Klemko was not affected by the Post layoffs and had been covering criminal justice as a national news reporter. Their reporting will appear across ESPN’s platforms, including ESPN.com, the ESPN App, SportsCenter, ESPN Audio podcasts, and additional ESPN programming. For ESPN, the hires are a notable change in direction from 2022 and 2023, when hundreds of staffers exited as part of sweeping Disney layoffs. “Adding these six outstanding journalists and the reputation of The Washington Post will enhance an ESPN team that is already the best in the business,” ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro said in a statement.
