John Skipper, the longtime head of ESPN, resigned suddenly Monday as president of the network and co-chairman of the Disney Media Networks. Skipper, who turns 62 on Tuesday, cited substance addiction as the reason he is stepping down. “I have had a wonderful career at the Walt Disney Company and am grateful for the many opportunities and friendships,” he said in a statement issued by ESPN. “I have struggled for many years with a substance addiction.
