CAIRO – 6 April 2021: Chairman of Suez Canal Osama Rabie stated Tuesday that the analysis of the black box of MV EVER GIVEN that got stranded in the international waterway in March is underway. Rabie added that the grounding of the container ship for six days incurred losses of $1 billion to the Suez Canal, and that is the primary estimation. The Suez Canal authority chairman stated that the waterway is being upgraded so as its crossing capacity would be 95 ships per day. Consultant to the Suez Canal Authority Captain Sayed Sheisha declared in a phone-in that he presides over the committee that is carrying out investigations on the MV EVER GIVEN crisis. The Suez Canal consultant underscored that the ship's captain is the one who has the final decision on the navigation of the ship.
