If the world switched to cleaner modes of transportation, we could do away with internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Charging a cleaner transportation industryAdmittedly, the power needed by an EV is low compared with typical daily electricity consumption. However, the challenge will be ensuring enough grid capacity, given the high-power requirements that the charging process can take. Also, for these modes of electric transportation, there is a growing battery-swap market powered by off-grid solar systems. This factor is important to note, as electric bus uptake is trending in Kenya and South Africa, where both countries experience lengthy power outages.
