Joining me on a virtual call last week, the South African Renewable Energy Masterplan (SAREM) facilitator, Gaylor Montmasson-Clair, declared the document ambitious but realistic. My first port of call was establishing SAREM’s position alongside the country’s various policies, such as the National Integrated Energy Plan. The response is clear: this is not an energy policy, but rather a social compact that will represent everyone. Therefore, incentives and policy support will be crucial to safeguard against imported renewable energy and storage technologies. Access the SAREM webinar recording to gain more insight into this conversation with the masterplan’s facilitator, Gaylor Montmasson-Clair.
