The epigraph for Irish-Canadian novelist Ed O’Loughlin’s new cyberthriller comes from Ian Fleming: “Once is happenstance. And to O’Loughlin’s credit, he does keep his pot at a furious boil throughout. A lengthy prologue introduces us to Lydia Alice Field (who goes by Alice) and Michael Atarian. Along the way, they are pursued by a corporate goon named Barb Collins and a vicious Scottish hit man. John le Carré might have frowned at O’Loughlin’s excesses, but it’s easy to imagine Ian Fleming smiling right along.
