British Airways flight BA8704 left London around 11am on February 27. ‌On it's approach to the capital the pilot signalled a general emergency code, according to flight tracking website Flightradar24. ‌During the flight's approach to the city, the pilot initiated a procedure known as squawking 7700 which signals a general emergency has been declared. ‌The procedure allows air traffic controllers and ground crews to respond to the emergency in the most effective manner.
