Edmonton Oil Kings new general manager builds on maturing roster

Kirt Hill was not sure what he was walking into when he was named general manager of the Edmonton Oil Kings this summer. The Oil Kings bottomed out, missing the playoffs in 2017 and 2018, which eventually cost Hansch and the coaching staff led by Steve Hamilton — now running the Calgary bench — their jobs. But in one of Hansch’s final moves, helping Hill transition into the role, the Oil Kings traded for 20-year-old veterans Vince Loschiavo and Quinn Benjafield at the bantam draft. Hill took that roster and improved it, bringing in goaltender Dylan Myskiw, Fyten, Vladimir Alistrov, Alexander Jacson, and Josh Williams. Myskiw, 20, proved to be an important acquisition as the Oil Kings had Scott and Boston Bilous go down with injuries on the eve of the season opener.
