One area of the Edmonton Oilers’ depth chart that Peter Chiarelli has left untouched to this point of the summer is the centre ice position. The centre group by comparison is young, fast and skilled but relatively lightweight and inexperienced. Of them, Jujhar Khaira got some time in Edmonton, albeit mostly at left wing even as he played plenty of centre in the minors. At this moment in time the Oilers line up five deep at centre with players who spent the 2015-16 season in Edmonton, where each played between 45 and 82 games. The main group in Edmonton consists of three young “Top Six” types and a couple of older players best suited to the fourth line.
