Bocauto gave birth to Edmonton’s first baby of 2019, Tia Alona, at the Royal Alexandra Hospital’s Lois Hole Hospital for Women at 12:08 a.m. on Jan. 1. Tia came in at five pounds, seven ounces. Bocauto wasn’t expecting her until Jan. 22, but little Tia Alona decided otherwise and her mother’s water broke in the middle of the night on Dec. 31. It was a surprising one because I didn’t know it was going to be the New Year’s baby,” Bocauto said. She said she chose the middle name Alona because it was her nickname among family and friends in the Philippines.
