Egypt sends shipment of humanitarian aid to Madagascar


A satellite image shows the formation of a low-pressure system named Batsirai over the Indian Ocean on 2 February 2022- UNICEF/NOAACAIRO – 12 March 2022: The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) has sent the first-ever shipment of humanitarian aid to Madagascar, to help it face the recent bad weather crisis, especially Cyclone Batsirai. Egyptian Ambassador to Madagascar Osama Said Khalil and a number of Malagasy officials received the shipment, Al Akhbar El Massay reported. The Malagasy officials expressed appreciation to the leadership and people of Egypt for their feelings of brotherhood and solidarity. They also praised Egypt's role in supporting their country in a way that reflects good relations and the bonds of friendship between two countries and peoples. According to the UN on February 7 2022, that Batsirai, with wind speeds of up to 165 kilometers per hour and wind gusts of up to 230km/h, hit several cities in Madagascar, the most affected districts of Nosy Varika, Mananjary and Manakara,It added that the cyclone caused more than 43,000 newly displaced across around 180 sites, and at least 211 schools impacted.
