Egypt to shut down stores after nine PM following rising gas and fuel imports


The Egyptian government will begin implementing its energy conservation measures on Saturday to address the significant increase in gas and fuel imports, which have risen by approximately US$1.1 billion monthly due to regional tensions and in to help reduce the strain on the national electricity grid. The decision includes the closure of several activities at nine pm, with these times applicable throughout the week, except on Thursdays and Fridays when this is extended to 10 pm. Also included are cafes and cafeterias, with the continuation of takeaway and home delivery services 24 hours a day, and wedding halls and related activities and social events. Entertainment areas such as amusement parks and entertainment venues that fall under the Public Establishments Law will also be closed.
