Egypt welcomed on Monday a historical Peace Agreement signed between Ethiopia and Eritrea to end years of fighting, Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement on Monday. Egypt is keen to promote security, peace, and stability in the Horn of Africa for the benefit of the peoples of the region, the statement noted. On Sunday, the Ethiopian Prime minister Abiy Ahmed and Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki signed a peace agreement in Jeddah to end fighting that resumed for long years. The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) António Guterres attended the historical event and praised King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdul Aziz sponsoring the agreement. In July, after 20 years of war, Ethiopia and Eritrea signed an agreement to end the war, allowing for the resumption of flights, diplomatic ties by opening embassies, and developing ports for trade exchange.
