Egyptian President Expresses Concern over Progress in Dam Talks

Egyptian President Expresses Concern over Progress in Dam TalksJanury 19, 2018 - Egypt's president, President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, expressed his concern to the Ethiopian Prime Minster over the lack of progress in talks on the impact of a massive upstream dam. According to news24 report, Sisi was grim-faced during most of a news conference he jointly addressed with the Ethiopian Prime Minister after the two held talks in Cairo. The Egyptian president also stated that Ethiopia has rejected Egypt's proposal to bring in World Bank experts as neutral arbitrators on the dispute over the likely impact of the dam on Egypt's share of the Nile. Of special concern to Egypt is the speed at which a planned reservoir is filled behind the dam and the method of its annual replenishment. The dam will generate over 6 400 megawatts, a massive boost to the country's current production of 4 000 Megawatts.
