Egypt's Environment minister to launch campaign "Beautiful Egypt" on solid waste management

CAIRO, Jan 24 (MENA) - Minister of Environment Yasmin Fouad said the ministry is launching a promotion campaign under the name of "Beautiful Egypt" to brief citizens on the new solid waste management system which has been launched by government across the country via the National Solid Waste Management Program (NSWMP). In statements on Sunday, Fouad asserted that the coming phase would witness a backing for the system of solid waste management in Greater Cairo, adding that the ministry has already achieved a notable progress regarding the plans of improving air quality and combating the impact of climate change in Cairo. She said the Egyptian government has reached a deal with the World Bank to fund the NSWMP with dlrs 200 million with the aim of outlining an executive plan for the management of air quality and climate change in Cairo. As part of the plan, NSWMP is to establish a number of waste dumps in Abu Zaabal area and other areas across the country to support the solid waste management system, she explained. NSWMP is part of Egypt's strategy to turn to green economy in light of the environmental dimension of Egypt's development strategy for 2030, the minister added.
