Si Prachan district police got the call at 5.45am and three fire engines were dispatched, but the raised, single-floor teak house was already engulfed in flames. The charred remains of Sanoh Phothong were found on an upper platform of the house. His daughter, Lakhana Phothong, 45, said 10 people lived there, including three young children. Unable to bring the blaze under control, she evacuated the children, but was unable to reach her father. Lakhana’s younger sister also suffered a knee injury jumping out of a window.
