Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity has launched its “Unified Readings Program” via Google Play on Thursday, an application that will allow users to monitor their home electricity meter and ensure the regular issuance of bills. The application will be gradually expanded to offer the same services to the rest of Egypt. Ministry spokesperson Ayman Hamza said that the electricity sector will digitize all of its electricity services by the end of 2021. Hamza emphasized that these steps come within the framework of the ministry’s efforts to eliminate billing complaints, and to ensure the accuracy of electricity bills. He added that Egypt’s electricity companies currently are able to investigate complaints received through hotline 121.
