By Matt Egan | CNNHarvard President Claudine Gay announced Tuesday she is stepping down just six months into her presidency amid a firestorm of controversy at the university. “It is with a heavy heart but a deep love for Harvard that I write to share that I will be stepping down as president,” Gay wrote in a letter to the Harvard community. Before Harvard, Gay was both an assistant professor of political science and a tenured associate professor at Stanford University — the same institution where she received her undergraduate degree in economics. Separately, Gay had drawn widespread criticism after accusations of plagiarism emerged, including multiple instances of missing quotation marks and citations. Interim president selectedAlan M.
