Energy Minister survives no-confidence vote: 153 against, 49 in favour View(s):By Sandun JayawardanaThe No-Confidence Motion (NCM) against Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody was defeated on Friday in Parliament by a majority of 104 votes. A total of 153 parliamentarians of the ruling National People’s Power (NPP) voted against the motion, while 49 opposition MPs voted for it. The main opposition SJB had tabled the NCM earlier with the support of other opposition parties. Opposition MPs had called on Mr Jayakody to step down from his post both before and during Friday’s debate, but he remained defiant, refuting the allegations made against him. His colleagues in government also closed ranks around him, voicing confidence in him and voting to defeat the NCM.
