The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday asked the Centre to issue guidelines and advisories to all the states and union territories to ensure that the implementation of coronavirus lockdown is done in a sensible manner respecting the rights, liberty and dignity of people. The commission also said that it appreciates the government agencies that are working hard to keep the coronavirus situation under control. It is being alleged that the illiterate and the less informed, mainly the poor labourers and daily wage workers, etc. are facing extreme difficulties due to shortage of food and other necessities, the NHRC said. Recently, the rights body took cognisance of a complaint regarding an alleged violation of human rights of the people suffering from mental illness during the lockdown.
