By some calculations, women’s jobs are 1.8 times more vulnerable to this crisis than men’s jobs. In South Africa, it is estimated that women have suffered two-thirds of the job losses due to the pandemic. Whether it is designing, textile manufacturing, food processing, wellness products or business services, women leaders are inspiring new generations and showing us what is possible. If we could encourage and incentivise women’s businesses, we can help them grow and accelerate their recovery from the financial impact of Covid-19. Only through concerted action, led by parents, teachers and leaders at every level, will we ensure the girls of the future do not inherit this inequality.
