Mary Katambi was one of the three girls that were offered scholarship by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from Secondary School to University under the supervision of the Margee Ensign scheme of the University. At the event, 476 graduating students were awarded higher degrees that included 1 Doctor of Philosophy, 38 Masters degrees, 3 Postgraduate Diplomas and 433 Bachelor degrees in various disciplines. Akinwumi Adesina also said that agriculture is the biggest asset Nigeria has and called for structural transformation in the sector. In his remarks, the founder of American University of Nigeria, Yola, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar advocated for the African Development Bank to consider supporting the private sector more in the agribusiness. They hijacked an Abuja-bound aircraft, the Nigerian Airways airbus A310, and diverted it to Niger Republic.
