With a little help from Rancho Alamitos, Estancia created a special moment for sophomore team manager Marcus Winters that also rubbed off on fans Wednesday night at Estancia. Before the game, Estancia coach Xavier Castellano reached out to Rancho Alamitos coach Andrew Scimeca about giving Winters, a special education student with Down syndrome, the chance to score the game’s first basket. In return, Estancia would allow Rancho Alamitos to score a basket after Winters scored. Winters scored the first basket after several shot attempts. “It was emotional,” freshman coach Chris Sorce said.
