Ethiopia: Logistics Sector Gets a Boost as Railway and Shipping Lines Join Forces

Ethiopia's logistics sector is set for an upgrade following an agreement signed between the Ethiopia-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway Share Company (EDR) and the state-owned Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics (ESL). The partnership aims to streamline the country's logistics network through improved coordination between the two key players. This is expected to enhance the role of the Ethiopia-Djibouti railway, a vital artery for Ethiopia's import and export activities. The 752-kilometer railway, constructed by China, has already become a game-changer for Ethiopia's trade. It serves as a critical passage for Ethiopia's major export, coffee, with 98% of coffee exports now relying on this efficient and reliable mode of transport.
