The decision marks one of the largest enforcement actions in Ethiopia’s private education sector, which has expanded rapidly over the past two decades to absorb growing demand for tertiary education. The proliferation of private colleges has, however, raised concerns over uneven quality, weak oversight and the credibility of qualifications. Authorities urged students and parents to verify accreditation status before enrolling, warning against institutions operating without official recognition. The full list of affected institutions includes a mix of business, technology, health and distance-learning colleges across the country.
