Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia and visiting Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta today inaugurated Debre Birhan Industrial Park (DIP) that initially creates 13,000 jobs. Ethiopian government has invested $71 million for the construction of DIP, located in Amhara Region around 170 kilometers from the Capital Addis Ababa. The Park has a total of 75 hectares, which will soon expand to 1,000 hectares having textiles, and agro-processing sections, according to Gedu Andargachew, head of Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Mr. Gedu stated that the inauguration of DIP is crucial for the development of the manufacturing sector in the Amhara Region along with the recently inaugurated Kombolcha Industrial Park, and Bahir Dar Industrial Park, which will be inaugurated soon, and the under construction Arerti Industrial Park. Gradually the Park is expected to operate in two and three shifts doubling and tripling the number of employees.
