Ethiopian Farmers Battle Devastating Locust Invasion

Farmers in Ethiopia’s Tigray region battled a devastating desert locust invasion on October 5. Media reported the insects had damaged about 200,000 hectares (500,000 acres) of land since January, as the country continued to struggle with food insecurity amid the coronavirus pandemic. Tigray Development Association (TDA) told Storyful the regional state was facing the worst desert locust swarm outbreak in decades. Given the COVID-19 disaster, the people are now subjected to a ‘double pandemic’” said the Executive Director of Tigray Development Association, Aklilu Hailemichael.
