Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed confessed on Monday that Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) faces financial and technical challenges to be finalized, vowing to overcome them, according to Al Ain news website. Addressing the Ethiopian Parliament, Ahmed accused parties inside the country and outside of hindering GERD’s construction process, but he did not name them. “Many parties want Ethiopia to disregard working on the dam,” Ahmed noted, adding the dam will witness some works but not like this year. According to the Ethiopian premier, the construction works at the dam are underway, as the African country announced that it had completed 76.3% of the dam. It is worth noting that the Ethiopian dam stirs disputes with Egypt and Sudan wich are afraid of harming their water shares in the Nile River.
