Ethiopian Somalis stage violent protests after burning of mosques in Amhara region

Angry protesters have taken to the streets of Jigjiga, the Somali Regional State in Ethiopia, denouncing the recent destruction of several mosques in the Amhara Regional State. A security official from the Somali state said one person was killed and two others wounded in the unrest. Somalis in the region are furious over the burning of three mosques in Western Ethiopia’s Mota District. The incident appeared to be in response to the burning of a church in the area a day before. Authorities in the Amhara Regional State said they arrested five people in connection with burning of the mosques.
