Toga, a veteran politician serving the East African country in various high-profile ministerial portfolios, officially assumed his new role on Wednesday, according to the statement issued by the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday. The long-serving politician, who was Ethiopia's Minister of Public Enterprises prior to his latest appointment, vowed to work towards the realization of priority areas of mutual interest, including the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Toga also served as Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives, the lower house of the Ethiopian parliament, for five years from 2005 to 2010. The newly appointed ambassador further acknowledged China's "unreserved" cooperation and support to Ethiopia's poverty eradication and economic transformation endeavors, the statement said.
