England played with three at the back to great effect when they reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2018. Germany have also used the system at Euro 2020, with Robin Gosens of Atalanta and Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich excelling as their wing-backs. A change in system for the Three Lions could see Kyle Walker deployed as the right-sided centre-back, where he played at the World Cup. England are yet to concede a goal at Euro 2020, but equally, have only scored twice in three games, with both of those goals coming from Raheem Sterling.
