Some European countries developing contact-tracing apps are grappling with a trade-off between privacy and making sure the tools work as intended. The French regulator has scheduled more investigations of the app’s privacy functions throughout the next six months, he said. Many European countries have moved faster than the U.S. to implement coronavirus contact-tracing apps. The Norwegian and Lithuanian privacy regulators suspended the apps in their countries over privacy concerns, WSJ Pro Cybersecurity reported in June. Several other European countries built their contact-tracing apps using Apple and Google’s software.
