The debate, which is hosted by CNN and starts at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, marks the first presidential debate between an incumbent president and a former president. It is also the first time since the 1980s that an organization other than the Commission on Presidential Debates has sponsored a general election presidential debate, and is the earliest general election presidential debate in modern history. A coin flip on Friday – which landed on tails – decided that Trump would have the last word in the debate. Bucking tradition, CNN’s debate will have two commercial breaks and no live audience. Earlier this week, Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt called the moderators “biased” and the CNN debate a “hostile environment” during an interview on the network.
