McNamara was taken ill on holiday in Spain and died at his home in Formby on Merseyside. In a statement, his family said: “He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, following a short and unexpected illness. He attended St Mary’s college in Crosby and studied law at University College Hull, where he met his future wife, Nora. McNamara is survived by his widow, three sons and a daughter.
